The CWSC has, since its inception, followed all the new developments and trends in water skiing technology. Two brand new Ski Nautiques have joined the four-boat fleet of the ski club. All of them are equipped with late versions of the Perfect Pass speed control and auto timing system. Three slalom courses, one right in front of the club, one to the right and one across the bay, are optimally located to offer good skiing conditions regardless of the wind direction. Wetsuits by O`Neill, skis by HO and other top quality products are available for skiers to use, free of charge, if they do not have their own equipment.
Team
ARETI PAPAKIRYKOU is the controller of our club! She controls everything: she controls the skis, she controls the queue, she allocates the skiers to the drivers and the boats, she controls staff breaks and days off.
And she does all that so that YOU, our guests, have a really pleasant time when you visit the Chalkis Water Ski center. Areti makes sure that you wait the minimum possible before you ski and that you are reminded enough time in advance of your ski set, so that you can prepare yourself and your equipment. She also makes sure that you ski in the best possible conditions and she tells the coaches/drivers what they have to know about you.
Despite her young age and the responsibilities she has in the running of the ski club, Areti is a full-time student in her third year at the School of Management and Economics of TEI in Athens. She has been in the club since 1993 and she is really familiar with the meaning of the words water skiing and tournament. The CWSC public relations department relies on Areti's skills on customer relations and support maters.
MARIA PAPAKIRYKOU and her younger brother Vangelis were taught how to water ski in 1975 by their father, who loved the sea and tried to get them up on skis as soon behind his motor boat as they learned how to swim. Two years later, brother and sister decided to compete in the Greek National Championship and tried to enter the slalom competition on two skis! That was the last time either of them skied on two skis.
Her best placing is second in the 1982 Junior Nationals.
Her love for the science of mathematics took her to Venice, Italy, where she graduated from the Univercita di Ca Foscari di Venezia. Economics, specialization: business legislation. After a long stay in Italy, she came back to Greece 2 years ago and is in charge of the CWSC's finance management.
You are most likely to find Maria in the club's office, updating the expenses and running the pro shop. She takes excellent care of the customers; you rarely see a person stepping out of the door without holding a bag with brand new ski-wear.
Coaching Team
ADONIS PAPAKIRYKOS (Adonis) is the co-founder of the Chalkis Water Ski center; he has being skiing for the last 18 years. After competing for 13 years in slalom, jump and wakeboarding, he devoted the last 5 in wakeboarding. He is a member of the Greek Wakeboarding National Team and has a coaching experience of 11 years in all events, specializing, of course, in wakeboarding.
He has competed in all kinds of tournaments, national and international. In 1997, he was the Greek Cup Holder in the jump event and, one year later, he won the Wakeboard Nationals. In the international arena, he has competed in many European competitions, such as UK Nottingham 1998, SA Johannesburg 2001 and GR Kastoria 2003 and Worlds in US Orlando 1999 and SA Sun City 2001. His best moment in the sport is "almost every day, whenever I am practicing behind an Air Nautique with all my friends riding on the boat". His worst moment was ages ago, in his first ever tournament at a really young age, when he was "not feeling very comfortable" behind the boat standing up on the ski.
